Chilean-American singer Paloma Mami is taking her artistry to new heights with the release of CÓDIGOS DE MUÑEKA, a project infused with anime-inspired visuals. As part of the promotion, she joined Crunchyroll’s “Show Your Fandom” series, where she opened up about her deep connection to anime and how it has shaped her music, fashion, and stage presence. The interview, produced in collaboration with Sony Music, is now available on Crunchyroll’s official YouTube channel.

How Paloma Mami Discovered Anime

Paloma’s journey into anime began at the age of 14, when Japanese friends introduced her to Naruto, sparking a passion that quickly expanded into manga and other series. That early influence has since evolved into a core element of her artistic identity.

“Anime is a constant source of inspiration. The openings give me feelings I channel into my songs, while the outfits and visuals inspire my dancers’ costumes and the staging of my concerts,” Paloma shared.

Favorite Series and Complex Characters

When asked about her favorites, Paloma pointed to Tokyo Ghoul, calling its opening theme “too good” and admitting she even wanted to sample it for her own music. Recently, she’s been drawn to Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, relating to the main character’s moody, introspective personality.

Paloma also revealed her fascination with protagonists who have “questionable morals,” appreciating how their growth and evolution mirror the emotional complexity she brings into her own artistry.

Anime as a Creative Signature

From color palettes and character design to stage visuals and costumes, Paloma Mami has woven anime into the DNA of her artistic universe. Her latest release, CÓDIGOS DE MUÑEKA, perfectly blends urban Latin sounds with Japanese-inspired aesthetics, further solidifying her as one of the most innovative voices in Latin music today.
